What can we do to take action?

We can all make it clear to our elected officials in Washington

that we will not settle for cut corners and low standards

in our air transportation system.  Write to your elected

officials and tell them that the system is broken and

                          requires reform.

Not sure what to write?  Send your elected officials this form letter (click here to load).

You can cut and paste the letter into your email.  Customize the letter with your

signature at the end as well as your elected officials names and titles at the beginning.

If you’d prefer to write your own letter-

                          Tell them that we need:

1. To Amend or change current crew rest regulations to ensure 8 hours of REST, not simply ‘off duty’.  Current regulations allow for situations in which crew members can not realistically expect to get 8 hours of sleep in a night.

2. To change policy to make sure no pilot is punished for fatigue and define "Fatigue" as a federally protected right.

3. A minimum wage for entry level airline pilots.

4. To raise the minimum experience requirements to be employed as an airline pilot.

5.  To seek legislation to outlaw the ‘Pay-For-Job’ programs.

6. To require clearer identification of Regional Airline Affiliate operations.

7.  To implement law so that if new, restructured, reassigned or cancelled flying contracts are planned, labor must have adequate time of a predetermined length to review it before implementation. If contract disputes arise, the change is frozen until dispute is settled in court.

8. To change the Railway Labor Agreement so the National Mediation Board can't block a strike. Proper bargaining leverage has been denied to pilots for years.

9. To write legislation stopping ‘Whipsawing’ and Contract Violation.

For help in elaborating on these points, see our Project Goals and News Sections.
